Carnival Glass And Me

I didn't know very much about Carnival Glass, only that is was pretty, until I had theresponsibility of selling my Mother's large Carnival Glass collection. This was in the 70's.She had planned to open an antique store with her beautiful Carnival Glass and had bought for several years. When she passed away my Father wasn't comfortable with having all of the valuable Carnival Glass antiques in his house. At that time, I was the only one available to take on the project of selling her Carnival Glass collection. I started out without any knowledge of what I was doing or the value of her things. She had kept very good books on what she had bought and how much she had paid for things. That was a life saver. So when I started selling, I had a base to go by and I just added a % to her base price. At that time I didn't realize she had bought wisely and some of her beautiful carnival glass sold at a very low price. But with study on Carnival Glass and what Antique stores were charging I finally got wiser.Of course this was pre-internet so had to search antique stores and books to find salable prices. Today when I look at the wonderful Carnival Glass available I have to constrain myself from buying more as I am in the business of selling. When I get rich maybe I will be able to afford some of the Carnival Glass I have sold!!
